EX-JUNCOS

Ten songs written and recorded in the 11 months since the release of "The Early Years." The album features a kaleidoscope of sounds, from the opening squeal of an intercom at the start of Maria, to the dreamy battle of time signatures on 3v4, from the mash-up of Chuck Berry and Sylvia Plath on Mad Girl Blues, to the unironic Bossa (at Fillmore 1970), and the title track, The Blues, improvised in the practice space at SF's Secret Studio, and recorded on Andrew's phone. The tracks were recorded in Oakland, a house in the forest in, and the shore of Lake Vättern, Sweden. The songs have lyrics by both band members plus a song with lyrics offered by Brian Eno (Maria and Little Maria). Download and CDs available for presale. (Release date 11/18/25)

Alongside their fuzz-gazey songs, ExJ has a place in the experimental/improv world. Their freeform pieces, like Eulogy for Clint Hill and The Bernese Sell, see drummer Andrew Lau moving over to guitar, in spontaneous sonic exploration with partner Jill Rogers, using feedback, overtones, and percussion. In these sessions, traditional song structure gives way to instinct and atmosphere, creating dense, unpredictable soundscapes that emphasize texture, spatial dynamics, and the visceral interaction between players, pushing the boundaries of their songwriting into pure, immediate expression.
